About Me

Kevin Cunningham

Photographer

Hello! Kevin Nichols here.
I’m a graphic design student from Salisbury, Maryland. Ever since I wanted my stick figures to wear clothes in first grade, I knew my dream was to illustrate the world. This childhood dream coaxed me to switch from an anticipated elementary school math teacher life to a designer. Already, I am doing things not long ago I would say was impossible, from working with multiple Adobe software, coding websites… even having a website of my own.

I bring a unique and versatile style to my design, along with a hard-working, encouraging, and genuine personality. Check out my academic portfolio and personal work, or contact me via email or on Facebook.

Technical Skills
Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign, & Dreamweaver, basic HTML & CSS, Microsoft Word, Excel, & PowerPoint, WordPress, and proficient in both Mac and Windows computers.

We each have a principle, a foundation that creates a chain of reasoning on what we choose, accomplish, and believe. No matter what, this chain flourishes continuously, based on whether we actively push it or it pushes us. This principle has now driven me to be a graphic designer, specifically a web designer. This principle is my autism, specifically Asperger’s Syndrome.

My vision and work truly reflect my relationship with this “disorder”. I passionately rejoice and despise my syndrome, a blessing and a curse, love and hate. I am eager to break the expectations of doctors, society, even close friends and family about what an autistic man should and shouldn’t be able to do. I prefer people to judge my websites and artworks by their aesthetic and functional value, not by their “disabled” creator. At the other end of the spectrum, sensory stimulus (primarily visual) invigorates my world. Whether I develop a minimalist or illustrative webpage, powerful imagery is a crucial element in my design strategy. Even typography is a picture. You can find me roaming free within the majestic worlds I create. Envisioning yourself in a seascape or fantasy world is just as important as listening to music, feeling various textures with your hands, and especially keeping an eye on the core elements of graphic design and web user experience. My design work also coincides with my other passions: fun, humor, geek culture, puzzles, optical illusions, and mystery. In the end, though, I meaningfully align all of my passions and forms of expression into what doctors called a “restricted, obsessive pattern”, moving back and forth between embracing and rejecting my “disorder” until I truly have a complete understanding of myself.
